The insignia
of the Order of British Columbia is in the form of a medal.
The medal depicts a stylistic dogwood (the floral emblem of
British Columbia), and features a crowned shield of arms;
it is worn with a green, gold, white and blue ribbon. The
medal was designed by Bruce W. Beatty.
In addition
to the medal, members of the Order receive a lapel pin and
a Certificate of Appointment in the form of Letters Patent.
Members are also granted the right to have the letters O.B.C.
placed after their names.
On May
9, 1991, by Order in Council, the Federal Government officially
recognized Provincial Orders. L'Ordre national du Quebec,
the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, the Order of Ontario, The
Order of British Columbia and the Alberta Order of Excellence
(in their order of creation) are now incorporated in the Canadian
Order of Precedence
